NICKNAME: “THE SILENT ASSASSIN”
Bakersfield, California native Mike Dallas, Jr. is the son of former professional boxer Mike Dallas, who had a 26-bout pro career also as a junior welterweight. His father provided young Mike with a pair of boxing gloves before he could even walk.
Dallas, Jr. compiled an impressive amateur record of 115-12 and, in the process, twice won the National Silver Mittens and National Police Activities League championships. He was a runner-up in the National Golden Gloves, as well as a quarterfinalist at the 2007 U.S. Olympic trials in the 141-pound division. He had no intentions of turning pro until after the Olympic Trials. However, being the victim of some questionable decisions at that tournament, he turned his attention to pursuing his professional career.
Signing a management contract with the dynamic team of Jackie Kallen and former Kronk boxing executive Prentiss Byrd, and working with long-time friend Danny Jackson, Dallas turned pro in March, 2008 and has five one-sided victories – all scheduled four-round bouts on Goossen Tutor-promoted shows in California.
Dallas garnered an impressive four-round decision victory over Alejandro Balladares -- winning all four rounds on all three judges’ scorecards in his pro debut in San Jose.
In June he posted a pair of decision wins -- over Marlo Cortez in San Jose, and Christopher Finley in Lemoore -- again posting shutout wins on all scorecards.
On the James Toney-Hasim Rahman II undercard in July, Dallas lost his first round as a professional, but nevertheless emerged with an action-packed unanimous victory over the then undefeated Artemio Reyes, Jr.
In August, 2008 at the Tachi Palace in Lemoore, California, the talented 21-year old with a crowd-pleasing style of speed and power registered his first knockout win – dropping James Helmes in just 1:45 of the first round.
His five-fight winning streak was interrupted by a majority draw against Jose Alfredo Lugo on November 29, 2008 when Dallas fought on the undercard of the first-ever pro boxing event at the new Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California.
2009 was a terrific year for Dallas, as he posted wins in all six of his bouts. He garnered unanimous-decision wins over Anthony Martinez (February in Lemoore, CA), Terrence Jett (April, Las Vegas, NV) and Marcus Brashears (April, Lemoore, CA), Vincent Arroyo (September, Temecula, CA) and Sergio De La Torre (October, Lemoore, CA), with a first-round TKO of Francisco Rios Gil (July, Lemoore) sandwiched in there.
MOST RECENT BOUT:
Dallas gave boxing fans watching on ESPN2 – and those in attendance at the Pechanga Resort & Casino -- a lasting impression by stopping veteran Fabian Luque with just two second remaining in the first round in Temecula, CA. Working with a strength coach paid dividends for Dallas, who recorded his third career knockout.
FAMILY:
Mike Dallas, Jr. is the eldest of five children to his parents Mike (42) and Antoinette Dallas (41). The elder Dallas currently serves as the athletic coordinator and boxing trainer at the Bakersfield P.A.L. in California. Mother Antoinette works as a pharmacy technician.
His siblings include brothers Daris (age 14) and Rayvontae (15), and sisters Autiana (14) and Kennesha (19). But his biggest pride and joy is his infant son, Mekai, born on June 12, 2008.
EDUCATION:
Dallas graduated from South High School in Bakersfield, where he played on the basketball and football teams. He attended Cal State Dominguez Hills for three years and is currently enrolled at Cal State Bakersfield, where he is majoring in Pre-Physical Therapy.
WHY BOXING:
Dallas comes from boxing bloodlines. In addition to his father, his grandfather was a professional prizefighter. So it was natural that he would take up the sport as well. He started boxing at the tender age of 5 and has been going strong ever since.
